Biography

Sokhany is an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial practice group in Phnom Penh, where she advises local and international corporate clients on commercial transactions, M&A deals, capital markets matters, and various other corporate legal issues. She helps businesses of all sizes navigate complex regulatory obstacles and critical procedural requirements. A versatile practitioner, Sokhany has experience serving clients in the telecommunication, energy, import-export, and tourism sectors, among many others.

Prior to joining Tilleke & Gibbins, Sokhany worked at another regional law firm in Phnom Penh, where she advised a wide range of clients on the process, legal obligations, and licensing requirements for all stages of operating a business in Cambodia.

Sokhany obtained a license from the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia in 2021 and in the same year was recognized as a qualified lawyer practicing in the securities market in Cambodia. She successfully completed trust training in 2023 and is also a recognized registration agent with the Ministry of Commerce. She holds an LLM in Public and Private International Law from the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and an LLB from the Royal University of Law and Economics.

Experience

  • Assisted an international transport company with corporate secretarial services and asset transfers for closing their business in Cambodia.
  • Advised an operator of more than twenty luxury hotels and resorts and serviced suites across Asia, North America, Oceania, and Europe and reviewed hotel management agreements, service and marketing agreements, and other commercial contracts in relation to the operation of hotels and resorts in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
  •  Assisted an international school in conducting due diligence in advance of a planned IPO in Cambodia.
  • Assisted an international food and beverage company in reviewing rules and regulations, sale and purchase agreements, internal policy documents, and commercial contract templates as part of a compliance review.
  • Assisted the Cambodian government in the drafting of regulations under the country’s Law on Consumer Protection.
