On November 22, 2012, the Euromoney Legal Media Group will hold its second annual Asia Women in Business Law Awards at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Hong Kong. Again this year, Tilleke & Gibbins stands amongst a leading group of law firms that will be recognized for their commitment to the advancement of women. The firms will be judged on a range of factors, predominately initiatives for gender diversity, innovation, mentoring, talent management, and female leadership within each firm.
The Franco-Thai, Thai-Italian, Belgian-Luxembourg-Thai, and Netherlands-Thai Chambers of Commerce are jointly hosting a seminar, “Floods: Are You Ready? Legal Aspects of the Floods 2011 and What You Need to Know to Prepare Yourself.” The seminar will take place on September 13, 2012, at the Sofitel hotel in Bangkok. The seminar will consist of presentations on several topics, including insurance issues, government subsidies, and tax relief.
This month’s issue of Asian Legal Business (ALB) focuses on the Women in Law Forum (in May), discussing the barriers to career progression that women have faced in Asia. Despite the region’s rapid economic growth and increasing number of highly qualified women, evidence shows that there are few women in top positions in law firms. The magazine’s July issue addresses these barriers, mostly “cultural, implied, and occasionally entrenched deep in the psyche,” why they are prominent, and how to tackle them.
