Chambers Asia-Pacific Awards 2017: Tilleke & Gibbins Top Contender for Thailand Law Firm of the Year Award

Tilleke & Gibbins has been nominated for the Thailand Law Firm of the Year Award 2017 by Chambers Asia-Pacific. The firm has been nominated for the award six times since 2010, and was honored to win the Thailand Law Firm of the Year Award 2014. This year’s winner will be announced at Chambers Asia-Pacific’s annual ceremony and dinner, which will be held at The Fullerton Hotel in Singapore on March 24, 2017.

The Chambers Asia-Pacific Awards recognize distinguished law firms across the region, with rankings and market profiles obtained from comprehensive research, including extensive client interviews and work assessments carried out by experts. The rankings relate to each firm’s practice areas and the achievements of their lawyers. Four other top law firms have been shortlisted for the Thailand Law Firm of the Year Award 2017.

On February 24, Tilleke & Gibbins, in collaboration with the Thai Business Association of Myanmar and the Thai Business Association of the Lao PDR, delivered a Thai-language webinar titled “How to Export Cosmetics to Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, and Parallel Importation and Case Studies in Thailand.” The 90-minute session was led by a number of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regulatory affairs (RA) specialists: Atthachai Homhuan, director of the firm’s regulatory affairs (RA) group in Bangkok; Dino Santaniello, head of the Laos office; Ratchanee Sriplaek, RA consultant in Thailand; Saithong Rattana, associate in the Laos office; Thanathon Trakoolpolpruek, RA consultant in Thailand; and Yuwadee Thean-ngarm, director of the firm’s Myanmar office. Together, the speakers addressed the following issues: Compliance with cosmetics laws and regulations in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar; Regulatory requirements for product labels and advertisements; Best practices and success stories related to exporting beauty products; Avoiding double importation; and Relevant case studies from Thailand. On February 8, Nopparat Lalitkomon, senior associate, and Thammapas Chanpanich, associate, both in the firm’s corporate and commercial group in Bangkok, delivered a joint Thai-language webinar entitled “Personal Data Protection Guidelines for Insurance Industry.” During the session, the speakers focused on the relevance of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)—which is expected to come into force on June 1, 2022—to the insurance industry. Specifically, they discussed the following topics: Key principles of personal data collection; Scope of establishing the principle of legality for insurance companies; Notification of data collection and data processing activities in accordance with the law; Procedures of execution between insurance companies and their counterparties; and Managing personal data collected prior to the effective date of the PDPA.
