On September 28, Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial group and dispute resolution group hosted a webinar titled “Land Acquisition for Industrial Purposes” to provide foreign companies with some insight into Thailand’s sometimes complex regulations. In the first part of the webinar, Chaiwat Keratisuthisathorn and Chanchai Jhongsathit of Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial department discussed foreign land ownership restrictions in Thailand, explained key steps to acquire land for industrial purposes, explained the process of conducting land due diligence, addressed sale and purchase agreements, and outlined the process of registering land transfers. In the second part of the session, Alongkorn Tongmee and Jidapa Srisummacheep of the firm’s dispute resolution department provided an overview of litigation in Thailand, spoke about Thailand’s court system, addressed different types of civil disputes, explained initiation of criminal action between the police and the court, and clarified special considerations for real estate disputes. On March 4, Tilleke & Gibbins arbitration specialists Noppramart Thammateeradaycho and Thawat Damsa-ard collaborated with Clyde & Co Clasis Singapore to deliver an international webinar entitled “Enforcing Foreign Arbitral Awards in Thailand and Setting Aside Awards in Singapore.” During the session, Noppramart and Thawat provided a comprehensive summary of enforcing foreign arbitral awards in Thailand. In their discussion they provided an overview of the arbitration landscape in Thailand, walked the audience through required documents and steps in enforcing foreign arbitral awards in Thai courts, addressed common objections from respondents, and spoke about enforcing and challenging Singapore arbitral awards through the Thai courts.
