Tilleke Helps Aesop Launch First Official Signature Store in Thailand

Tilleke & Gibbins is proud to have helped well-known Australian luxury cosmetics brand Aesop with the launch of its first official signature store in Thailand, advising on a full range of legal matters from company incorporation and licensing to product registration and all stages in between.

Having first assisted Aesop secure their valuable trademarks in Indonesia in 2014, our representation expanded into other jurisdictions, including Thailand, where their business was previously conducted through a licensed distribution model. That success led Aesop to restructure its Thai business in 2023, when we were retained to assist with incorporating a Thai subsidiary, reviewing its employee handbook and HR policies, as well as direct marketing registration, and applying for an e-commerce license and other requisite licenses from the Department of Foreign Trade, the Thai Industrial Standards Institute, and the Thai FDA. We continue to provide ongoing advice and assistance on product registration and labeling requirements, customs matters, and other general corporate and legal matters.

With over 230 company-owned stores worldwide, Aesop is widely recognized as a leader in the luxury cosmetics space and has a devoted and growing customer base across the globe. Having been acquired by L’Oreal in 2023 for EUR2.3 billion, Tilleke & Gibbins proudly continues to advise and assist Aesop across our offices in Southeast Asia. With the launch of its first official signature store in Thailand, Aesop will be able to provide Thai consumers with a unique customer experience and better access to its much-desired cosmetic products.

Tilleke & Gibbins’ cross-practice team for Aesop is led by Charuwan Charoonchitsathian and includes Atthachai Homhuan, Nitcharat Siraprapasiri, Penrurk Petchmani, Petcharat Timpuangtong, and Ratchanee Sriplaek, among numerous other team members across the region.
