Thawat Damsa-ard, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group, will participate as a special commentator and as a speaker at the PILnet 2015 Asia Pro Bono Forum.

As a special commentator, Thawat will provide unique insights in a panel discussion on the topic, “Growing Pro Bono in Thailand,” which will look at the role pro bono can play in the continued development of Thailand. As a speaker, Thawat will present on the topic, “Starting a Pro Bono Practice in Your Firm,” which will cover issues such as screening pro bono requests, pro bono policies, and obtaining senior buy-in or interest from junior associates, among other subjects. 

PILnet is a nonprofit organization that serves as a global network for public interest law and a builder of the global pro bono community. The conference will take place over two days, from June 23 to 24, at The Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Thawat’s session on “Growing Pro Bono in Thailand” will be held on June 23, from 4.15 p.m. to 5.25 p.m. His presentation on “Starting a Pro Bono Practice in Your Firm” will be made on June 24, from 9.50 a.m. to 11.15 a.m.

As a sponsor of this conference, Tilleke & Gibbins will also host the “Pro Bono Clearinghouse Workshop,” an invitation-only event, on June 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a day before the conference. The workshop will take place at the Auditorium of the firm’s Bangkok office, and it will be attended by non-government organization representatives, lawyers, and government officials.

On March 2, the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Thailand) elected new executives at its annual general meeting. In the ballot, Chaiwat Keratisuthisathorn, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ coporate and commercial group, was reelected to the board of directors and chosen to become one of the organization’s vice presidents. Having recently completed his first two-year term on the AustCham Thailand board, Chaiwat’s reelection on March 2 marks the beginning of his second consecutive term. The vice president position to which he was named—one of four in Austcham—carries a one-year term. In his role as director and vice president, Chaiwat continue to represent AustCham Thailand and Tilleke & Gibbins in high-level meetings, organize and participate in AustCham Thailand activities and events, and further support the interests of the Australian business community in Thailand. On February 24, Tilleke & Gibbins, in collaboration with the Thai Business Association of Myanmar and the Thai Business Association of the Lao PDR, delivered a Thai-language webinar titled “How to Export Cosmetics to Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, and Parallel Importation and Case Studies in Thailand.” The 90-minute session was led by a number of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regulatory affairs (RA) specialists: Atthachai Homhuan, director of the firm’s regulatory affairs (RA) group in Bangkok; Dino Santaniello, head of the Laos office; Ratchanee Sriplaek, RA consultant in Thailand; Saithong Rattana, associate in the Laos office; Thanathon Trakoolpolpruek, RA consultant in Thailand; and Yuwadee Thean-ngarm, director of the firm’s Myanmar office. Together, the speakers addressed the following issues: Compliance with cosmetics laws and regulations in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar; Regulatory requirements for product labels and advertisements; Best practices and success stories related to exporting beauty products; Avoiding double importation; and Relevant case studies from Thailand. Tilleke & Gibbins partners in the firm’s Bangkok and Hanoi offices were quoted in Lex Mundi’s newly released Global M&A Trends Report 2022. The report covers notable trends, issues, and forecasts for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) around the world. Kobkit Thienpreecha, partner and director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial department, was sought out for his comments on the M&A picture in Thailand, while Thomas Treutler, partner and managing director of the firm’s Vietnam offices, gave his insights into the M&A landscape in Vietnam. The Global M&A Trends Report 2022 was produced by the Lex Mundi Cross-Border Transactions Group, and it analyzes M&A deal activity by sector and market. Overall, the report, which compiles market intelligence from practitioners in 66 jurisdictions, finds that 2021 was a record year for M&A deal activity and that most jurisdictions expect to see a similarly active environment in 2022.
