Tilleke & Gibbins to Host 2017 SCG Legal International Meeting in Bangkok

Tilleke & Gibbins, the only Thailand member of SCG Legal, a legal network comprised of over 148 independent law firms in 82 countries, will be hosting the 2017 SCG Legal International Meeting during May 11-12 at the Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok.

Speaking at the event will be the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Glyn T. Davies; the CEO of SCG Legal, David Poisson; and the Chairman and Chief Values Officer of Tilleke & Gibbins, David Lyman.

Representatives from Tilleke & Gibbins will also be participating in the following sessions during the meeting:

  • Thailand’s Emerging Multinationals: Strategies and Projections. In this panel discussion, in-counsel from leading Thai companies will share their long-term business strategies and market outlooks. The panelists will comprise Kristina Fischer, assistant vice president of business development and legal services at Centara International Management; Yingyong Tanthanapongphan, senior manager of IP management at Siam Cement Group; and Somboon Earterasarun, partner at Tilleke & Gibbins. Moderating the session will be Michelle Ray-Jones, consultant at Tilleke & Gibbins.
  • Fighting Fakes: Strategies to Enforce IP Rights in Thailand. Through a series of case studies, Tilleke & Gibbins partner Suebsiri Taweepon will provide an overview of the IP enforcement environment and current practices in Thailand.
  • Addressing Corruption in the Pacific Rim through Localized Compliance Programs. This session will cover how to design and implement effective local compliance programs for foreign companies. The panelists will include Michael Ramirez, consultant at Tilleke & Gibbins, and Tom Pickthorn, partner at Mills & Reeves. Moderating the session will be John Frangos, consultant at Tilleke & Gibbins.

The report covers notable trends, issues, and forecasts for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) around the world. The Global M&A Trends Report 2022 was produced by the Lex Mundi Cross-Border Transactions Group, and it analyzes M&A deal activity by sector and market. Overall, the report, which compiles market intelligence from practitioners in 66 jurisdictions, finds that 2021 was a record year for M&A deal activity and that most jurisdictions expect to see a similarly active environment in 2022. Noppramart Thammateeradaycho, a counsel in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution practice, has been appointed as an arbitrator by the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA). Noppramart is a recognized leader in international arbitration in the region, with special experience in arbitration of disputes involving the maritime, transportation, insurance, and construction sectors. Her term as an arbitrator will run until February 20, 2025. The SCIA, which was established in 1983 as China was undergoing economic reforms and liberalization, was the first arbitration institution in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. On January 21, 2022, Tilleke & Gibbins hosted a Chinese-language webinar aimed at helping clients in mainland China understand the fundamentals of Thailand’s trademark registration process. Sher Hann Chua, a consultant of the firm’s intellectual property department, led the webinar, which was titled “Trademark Registration and Prosecution in Thailand: Issues and Challenges.” During the session Sher Hann discussed the following topics: Overview of Thailand’s trademark registration procedure; Recent developments in Thailand’s trademark prosecution framework; and Common trademark registration pitfalls for Chinese companies in Thailand and how to overcome them. Noppramart Thammateeradaycho, a counsel in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution practice, has been appointed to the new panel of arbitrators announced recently by the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC). Noppramart, who was one of two attorneys from Thailand named to the new SHAC arbitration panel, will provide particular support in relation to arbitration of disputes involving the maritime, transportation, insurance, and construction sectors. She is joined on the panel by arbitrators from a wide range of professional backgrounds, with expertise diverse fields including economics, judicial procedure, business, intellectual property, finance, and many more. SHAC, which has grown considerably since its establishment in 1995, is one of the major international arbitration institutions in China. It provides alternative dispute resolution services to companies, organizations, and individuals involved in contentious matters that both parties have agreed to resolve through arbitration rather than litigation.
