Thawat Damsa-ard and John King Named as Leading Asset Recovery Lawyers

Through comprehensive, independent survey work involving the participation of general counsel and private practice lawyers, Who’s Who Legal: Asset Recovery 2015  has compiled a list of the most highly regarded asset recovery lawyers around the globe. Joining this list among the “Most Highly Regarded Individuals” category is Thawat Damsa-ard, partner and chief litigator in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group, who represents one of just five practitioners across the Asia-Pacific and the only lawyer from Thailand to be recognized as a leading asset recovery lawyer in this class. John King, partner at the firm, was also recognized as a leading asset recovery lawyer in Thailand.

In addition to Thawat’s recognition, the accompanying editorial describes him as a “‘leading light’ in Thailand” and as a lawyer who “‘truly excels’ in the litigation sphere.” “He is sought after thanks to his ‘strategic approach’ in complex international disputes,” it continued. On October 5, 2021, Dutsadee Dutsadeepanich, an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution department in Bangkok, spoke in a webinar titled “The Rise of Arbitration in Asia.” Cohosted by the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) and the Arbitration Association Brunei Darussalam (AABD), the online panel will share information and perspectives on arbitration in Asia—especially in relation the recent global growth of arbitration cases, which has been seen both in traditional arbitration centers such as Singapore and Hong Kong, and in other Asian jurisdictions offering arbitration expertise. The panel brought together six Asian arbitration specialists, including Dutsadee, who is currently the secretary of the Thailand branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is Thailand’s only representative on the Young Arbitrators Forum of the International Chamber of Commerce. Together the speakers led a comprehensive and wide-ranging discussion on developments and trends related to arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in Asia, with particular consideration of commercial arbitration, investor-state arbitration, and international commercial court proceedings. THAC and AABD are national-level arbitration organizations and are members of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group.

On September 29, Dutsadee Dutsadeepanich spoke in two panels as part of the 8th Young Arbitrators (YAF) Global event of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Dutsadee appeared in her role as one of 89 regional YAF representatives around the world. Dutsadee, who was first named to the YAF in August 2021, is the only representative from Thailand in the YAF’s South Asia Regional Chapter. For the recent YAF Global event, the first panel Dutsadee contributed to was titled “Know Your YAF – South Asia Edition!” while the second was titled “Tips for the Young by the Young!” In both sessions, she shared her extensive experience, laid out best practices, and addressed current topics of interest in arbitration. The YAF is responsible for promotion of ICC’s dispute resolution services and development of the organization’s extensive network of members. The forum, which is open to representatives up to age 40, helps young professionals build up their skills and knowledge of alternative dispute resolution such as the ICC’s arbitral procedures and disputes services. The representatives also oversee events that offer young arbitration practitioners in the region the chance to foster connections with one another and to learn from experienced practitioners. On September 29, Dutsadee appeared as a guest speaker in two panels as part of the 8th ICC YAF Global 24-Hour Event. In the discussions, she shared her extensive experience, laid out best practices, and addressed some current issues in arbitration to the audience of young arbitration practitioners, counsel, corporate counsel, and academics from around the world. On September 30, she participated in a THAC webinar titled “Gender Diversity in International Arbitration: Trends and Developments in Thailand and Asia.” Together with four female arbitrators, she discussed the state of gender diversity in the industry, addressed gender parity according to cultural differences, and shared how COVID-19 has brought new challenges and opportunities for female professionals in the field.
