James Evans to Participate in Roundtable on IP Protection in Southeast Asia at BACC

Tilleke & Gibbins is serving as a cosponsor of Pharmacide Arts & Counterfeit Goods, an art exhibition organized by the French Embassy in Thailand and the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP). Running from April 2 to May 26, 2013, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC), the exhibition is intended to educate the public about the dangers of fake medicine through a series of works of art. The event also features a range of products on loan from the Tilleke & Gibbins Museum of Counterfeit Goods.

Contributing to the public educational campaign, the event organizers are hosting a roundtable discussion on “Intellectual Property Protection within Southeast Asia” at the BACC on April 10 at 4 p.m. Among the participants, James Evans of Tilleke & Gibbins will discuss the legal aspects of counterfeit products and the risks they pose to consumers. James will be joined on a panel by other prominent speakers from the DIP and the pharmaceutical industry.

Channel 3’s variety program, Happy Life, recently visited the Tilleke & Gibbins Museum of Counterfeit Goods to film the museum and interview Wiramrudee Mokkhavesa, an attorney-at-law in the firm’s intellectual property department, on issues surrounding Thailand’s counterfeiting situation.During the interview, Wiramrudee delved into the history of Tilleke & Gibbins’ museum, and she discussed a number of counterfeiting matters in Thailand. Wiramrudee also discussed the Thai government’s ongoing efforts to tackle these issues.

On July 7, Tilleke & Gibbins’ Museum of Counterfeit Goods was featured on Dorocha, a variety program on YouTube. During the program, two of Dorocha’s hosts interviewed Suebsiri Taweepon, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group. Suebsiri discussed Thailand’s counterfeit goods situation and explained the basics of intellectual property law. He also provided some interesting examples of matters the firm has handled on behalf of clients.
