Dino Santaniello Speaks in ECCIL Webinar on Starting a Business in Laos

On September 14, Dino Santaniello, head of Tilleke & Gibbins in Laos, spoke in a webinar titled “Starting a Business in Laos.”

The webinar, which was hosted by the European Chamber of Commerce in Laos (ECCIL), featured four business and legal experts sharing insights on how entrepreneurs, investors, and multinationals can set up a company and obtain work permits in Laos. In his presentation, Dino focused on the legal framework for business establishment in Laos and offered some practical tips on how the process is conducted locally. Together, the speakers highlighted the significant opportunity available to business operations in Laos, and discussed the competitive advantages and challenges of carrying out business activities in the jurisdiction. They also discussed taxation and financial best practices, such as opening a corporate bank account.

The well-attended webinar attracted many entrepreneurs, investors, executives, and others interested in potentially setting up business operations in Laos.

Tilleke & Gibbins is pleased to announce the addition of Patcharaporn Pootranon and Saravut Krailadsiri as partners in the firm’s Bangkok office, further strengthening its capital markets and tax practices. Patcharaporn Pootranon joins the firm’s capital markets practice, bringing almost 20 years of experience in capital markets, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and taxation. She has been involved in many significant domestic and international M&A transactions, including securities offerings under Rule 144A/Regulation S under the U.S. Securities Act and under Thai securities law across different industries, including energy, food and beverages, retail, and others. Patcharaporn is ranked in the capital markets practice area by Chambers Asia-Pacific, and she was named one of Asia’s 40 Under 40 by Asian Legal Business in 2018. Jay Cohen, partner and director of Tilleke & Gibbins in Cambodia, is quoted extensively in a recent Asian Legal Business (ALB) article on Cambodia’s plans to establish a commercial court to adjudicate business disputes. As the article explains, this new judicial body will help relieve pressure on Cambodia’s court system by handling all business disputes, which currently add to the docket of the country’s criminal courts. In the article, Jay provides some context for the planned development, outlines some of the most notable changes that will result from the move, and explains how the establishment of the court will likely strengthen investor confidence by adding a measure of predictability.
