On November 22, 2012, the Euromoney Legal Media Group will hold its second annual Asia Women in Business Law Awards at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel in Hong Kong. Again this year, Tilleke & Gibbins stands amongst a leading group of law firms that will be recognized for their commitment to the advancement of women. The firms will be judged on a range of factors, predominately initiatives for gender diversity, innovation, mentoring, talent management, and female leadership within each firm.

Tilleke & Gibbins has become the first law firm to join Thailand’s Collective Action Coalition Against Corruption (CAC). Darani Vachanavuttivong, co-managing partner and managing director of the firm’s intellectual property group, signed the commitment at a ceremony marking National Anti-Corruption Day on September 6, 2012.

Corruption continues to negatively affect Thailand’s competitiveness due to a lack of political will to tackle the problem, according to David Lyman, Chairman & Chief Values Officer of Tilleke & Gibbins, in a statement published in today’s edition of The Nation. David also emphasized the importance of continuity and stability in Thailand’s investment policies, especially in the context of the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Over the past several years, the U.S. government has become increasingly active in the enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). But despite the increased focus on criminal prosecutions of companies and their principals, evidence suggests that many people still view some form of bribery as an acceptable or even necessary requirement for doing business in some countries. This increases risk and imposes a responsibility for companies doing business abroad to do all that is necessary to ensure that they and their partners act in ways that are compliant with the FCPA.
