David Lyman to Discuss Business Ethics at Dataconsult CEO Breakfast

Focusing on the theme of Business Ethics, the discussion will include a keynote speech by Dr. Stephen Young of the Caux Roundtable. Following Dr. Young’s presentation, a panel discussion will draw on some of the key issues to examine business ethics and corporate social responsibility by companies in Thailand. Corruption continues to negatively affect Thailand’s competitiveness due to a lack of political will to tackle the problem, according to David Lyman, Chairman & Chief Values Officer of Tilleke & Gibbins, in a statement published in today’s edition of The Nation. David also emphasized the importance of continuity and stability in Thailand’s investment policies, especially in the context of the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Over the past several years, the U.S. government has become increasingly active in the enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). But despite the increased focus on criminal prosecutions of companies and their principals, evidence suggests that many people still view some form of bribery as an acceptable or even necessary requirement for doing business in some countries. This increases risk and imposes a responsibility for companies doing business abroad to do all that is necessary to ensure that they and their partners act in ways that are compliant with the FCPA.
