Companies Train Customs Officials on Suppression of IP Infringement

Tilleke & Gibbins and several major multinational companies jointly hosted a successful brand identification training seminar for Thai customs officers on December 15, 2011. Mr. Somchai Poonsawat, Director General of the Thai Customs Department, presided over the seminar, which was held at Bangkok’s S31 Hotel.

The training provided an opportunity for leading international brand owners to train Thai customs officials on how to differentiate between genuine and fake products, thus enabling them to be more effective in their suppression of counterfeit products at the Thai borders. The training sessions were led by attorneys from Tilleke & Gibbins and representatives of seven brands, including Casio Computer Co., Ltd., Dorco Co., Ltd., Cosmega Co., Ltd. (authorized distributor of Etude Corporation in Thailand), Gant AB, Guru Denim Inc., Malachi Co., Ltd. (authorized distributor of Skinfood Co., Ltd. in Thailand), and York Transport Equipment (Asia) Pte. Ltd.

Customs officers from several key bureaus attended the training, including Investigation and Suppression Bureau, Bangkok Port Customs Bureau, Suvarnabhumi Airport Cargo Clearance Customs Bureau, Lad Krabang Cargo Control Customs Office, and Laem Chabang Port Customs Bureau.
