Bangkok Post: US States Get Tough on Piracy

Bangkok Post

Thai manufacturers focused on exports to the United States need to familiarize themselves with new Unfair Competition Acts (UCAs) that are moving ahead in several U.S. states, according to an article in today’s Bangkok Post. The laws are intended to level the playing field by preventing companies that use unlicensed technology in their production process from competing unfairly with businesses that adhere strictly to intellectual property laws.

The article cites Wiramrudee Mokkhavesa, an attorney in the Tilleke & Gibbins IP team, as saying that a total of 38 U.S. states and 3 territories have made commitments to use local laws to combat IT piracy. She emphasized that manufacturers need to review their supply chain to ensure that suppliers of both hardware and software are using certified or licensed products.
