On September 24, the winners of the inaugural Asialaw Asia-Pacific Dispute Resolution Awards 2015 were announced at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Hong Kong, and Tiziana Sucharitkul, co-managing partner and director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution and litigation group, was named the Disputes Star of the Year in Thailand for her leadership of our outstanding dispute resolution and litigation team. In addition, our firm received four nominations in the following categories:

  1. National Law Firm of the Year – Thailand
  2. National Law Firm of the Year – Vietnam
  3. Disputes Star of the Year – Vietnam – Loc Xuan Le
  4. Best in IP

The awards celebrate the leaders in litigation and dispute resolution across 14 jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific. In light of the growing controversy surrounding the practice of commercial surrogacy in Thailand, Al Jazeera interviewed Nandana Indananda, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group, for his views on the situation.Commenting on the reasons as to why surrogacy has become so prevalent in Thailand, Nandana said, “there are a lot of women in Thailand who are in a position to become a surrogate mother. They need money, and together with the advancement of technology, Thailand may be a heaven for surrogacy.”

Covering the story, the Associated Press conducted an interview with Nandana Indananda, a partner at Tilleke & Gibbins who headed a project to draft Thailand’s still-pending surrogacy bill, for his insight and perspective on the matter.
