On December 6, 2019, the Notification Regarding the Guidelines for the Consideration of Unfair Trade Practices in Franchise Businesses was issued to prevent franchisors from adopting overly restrictive and unfair contractual conditions that are deemed to potentially cause damage to franchisees. The notification will become effective on February 4, 2020.

On January 1, 2020, region-based minimum wages for non-state employees in Vietnam will increase by an average of 5.5%. The increase was passed by Vietnam’s National Wage Council on July 11, 2019, and approved by the prime minister on November 17 of the same year.

Under Cambodia’s new Patent Recognition Program (PRP), the Ministry of Industry and Handicraft (MIH) will recognize the examination results of a corresponding patent granted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and grant the patent accordingly. The National Wage Committee of Thailand’s Ministry of Labour has announced a new minimum daily wage, which will take effect on January 1, 2020. The announcement increases the minimum wage by THB 6 per day for workers in nine provinces—Bangkok, Chon Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Phuket, Prachin Buri, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon—and by THB 5 in all other provinces. With these changes, the sliding scale for the minimum daily wage in 2020 will range from THB 313 to THB 336, as detailed in the table below.
