Biography

Thao Xuan Tran Dinh is a patent executive in the Hanoi office. As a member of the patent team’s electronics and mechanical division, she handles patent and industrial design applications from filing to grant across a range of mechanical, electronic, electrical, and energy fields.

Thao brings a unique combination of technical know-how and international experience to her clients. Before turning to IP law, she earned an engineering degree in Australia on a full scholarship, and began her professional career as a field engineer with international oil field services giant Baker Hughes, with whom she trained in Dubai and the U.S. and worked in Vietnam and Canada. Before joining the Tilleke & Gibbins team, she worked for one of Vietnam’s largest domestic IP firms.

Experience

  • Drafted a Vietnamese patent specification for an invention related to centralized monitoring and distributed processing of warnings for fire and explosive risks.
  • Managed more than 300 patent and industrial design cases filed in Vietnam in electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications and mechanical engineering fields.
  • Translated many patent specifications from English into Vietnamese in electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications and mechanical engineering fields.
  • Translated two patent specifications from Vietnamese into English in the mechanical engineering field for the client to file the applications abroad.
  • Advised clients on amending claims and specifications to meet the formality requirements and filed arguments on behalf of clients in response to office actions.
