Biography

Binh Thi Thanh Nguyen is an attorney-at-law with T&G Law Firm LLC (TGVN), a licensed law firm and IP agent that partners with Tilleke & Gibbins for local filings in Vietnam. Binh has been working in the trademark field since 2007, and handles all aspects of trademark prosecution, including searches, filing applications, handling appeals, oppositions, and cancellations, and regularly liaising with the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam. She also handles registration of geographical indications and copyrights, and assists with IP enforcement matters.

Binh is a licensed attorney with a degree from the Hanoi Law University, and is also a licensed IP agent in Vietnam. She spent six years with one of Vietnam’s leading domestic firms before joining Tilleke & Gibbins, and has gained considerable knowledge and practical experience in the protection of intellectual property rights with an emphasis on oppositions and appeals.

Experience

  • Successfully opposed many pending trademarks on the grounds of confusing similarity to clients’ trademarks; notably including a pending trademark applied for goods in Class 7 based on the well-known status of the client’s trademarks for fashion goods in Class 25.
  • Successfully appealed office actions against trademark applications for one of the world’s biggest tires companies, including a refusal on descriptive grounds.
  • Represented and advised a world-leading multinational swimwear corporation in a bad-faith trademark case taken by a holder in Brazil.
  • Advised and represented one of the world’s largest IT corporations in protection of a series of their trademarks in Vietnam, including filing applications for registration of their trademarks and opposing many pending third-party marks that are similar to the client’s trademarks.
  • Advised and represented two Japanese associates in prosecuting two foreign geographical indication applications in Vietnam.

  • Advised and represented many multinational corporations in prosecuting hundreds of trademark applications in Vietnam, including a complex trademark application filed in 13 classes comprising nearly 800 goods/services and with 13 priority claims.
