POSITION SUMMARY

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research under the supervision of partners and associates.
  • Support attorneys in a variety of tasks relating to legal assignments.
  • Conduct document filing.
  • Establish and maintain calendar and deadline reminder systems for your supervisors. Maintain mailing lists and other internal records.
  • Schedule appointments for attorneys and other supervisors, and make travel arrangements for attorneys, supervisors and clients as requested.
  • Prepare correspondence, contracts, application dossiers and other legal documents from written and oral drafts, and occasionally from scratch. Proofread and edit documents in Vietnamese and English for proper grammar and spelling, and format documents to correspond to firm standards.
  • As requested, translate written documents from Vietnamese to English and/or English to Vietnamese, or proofread translations prepared by others. Provide interpretation services for the firm’s colleagues, clients and other persons.
  • As requested, travel to local government offices to submit and retrieve application dossiers and related documents, and work with authorities as necessary to ensure efficient processing.
  • Open new files, request conflict-of-interest checks with file room records, and maintain all client and general files. Conduct periodic review of older files for possible move to storage. Prepare files to be closed.
  • Process attorney timesheets, payment vouchers and other records in a timely manner. Maintain and process your own timesheets for all of your billable assignments in a timely manner. Process invoices, proof billing memos, review and edit draft invoices as instructed.
  • Operate office equipment, using Microsoft Office and other commercial or internally developed software. Maintain proficiency through self-study and formal or informal internal and external training.
  • Attend training programs identified by the firm to ensure that you maintain and develop the job skills necessary to ensure peak productivity, career development and the firm’s efficient operations.
  • Perform other work related tasks as instructed by supervisory and management personnel.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

This opportunity would suit a diligent and career-focused Paralegal/Trainee Lawyer who wants exposure to a high-quality caseload for world-class clients. In addition to experience in the types of duties outlined above, you should have:

  • Bachelor of Law or equivalent degree.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Fluency in spoken English and excellent English writing skills.
  • Good analytical, drafting, communication, and research skills.
  • Good problem-solving ability.
  • Strong commitment to client service.
  • Strong case, client, and team management skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
