Yuwadee Thean-ngarm to Join Panel Discussion at Myanmar Insight 2019

On August 23, 2019, Yuwadee Thean-ngarm, the director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ Yangon office and secretary-general of the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM), will join a much-anticipated panel at Myanmar Insight 2019 on implementing retail and wholesale businesses in Myanmar. During this panel session, attendees will receive practical insight on how foreign investors can effectively establish retail and wholesale businesses in Myanmar under recent legislation. Yuwadee and the other panelists—Krit Kasayapanand, managing director of GC Marketing Solutions, Myanmar; Verapun Hensawat, managing director of Flying Horse ICP Fertilizer (Myanmar); and Sorasak Keeratichokechaikul, the president of TBAM—will share their experiences with the audience of Thai potential investors.

Myanmar Insight is an annual event, co-hosted by TBAM and the Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon, and sponsored by Tilleke & Gibbins and others, which aims to promote and increase Thai investment and trade in Myanmar. In addition to learning from Yuwadee and the other panelists, attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear updates from business executives, policy makers, ministers, and other experts and senior government officials from Myanmar and Thailand.

Michael Ramirez, a counsel in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group in Bangkok, will provide the Thailand legal outlook at a Thailand Regional Forum meeting to be held at Sasin School of Management on June 9, 2022. The event will be a special relaunch meeting of the Thailand Regional Forum, an initiative established by Dataconsult some 35 years ago. After a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, the forum is restarting with Sasin School of Management as its new home. The Thailand Regional Forum at Sasin plans to hold regular meetings from July onward. The meeting will consist of forecasting panel presentations and roundtable discussions. In addition to Michael’s presentation of the legal outlook for Thailand, other speakers will offer insights into Thailand’s political, risk, economic, and human resources outlook in the coming year. Following the presentations, the speakers and attendees will participate in a roundtable discussions and Q&A to address any questions that came up during the session and to consider various potential scenarios. On April 21, Tilleke & Gibbins collaborated with Anderson Mori & Tomotsune to offer a Japanese-language webinar on insolvency proceedings in Thailand. Presented by Chieko Tsuchiya, a consultant in the dispute resolution department in Bangkok office, the webinar session addressed the following areas of discussion: Comprehensive overview of bankruptcy and business rehabilitation procedures in Thailand; Rehabilitation case studies; and Practical tips on what measures to take if a business partner goes bankrupt. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session, in which Alongkorn Tongmee, an experienced litigator in same department, assisted Chieko in fielding many queries on this topic from the floor. Together, the two attorneys were able to provide guidance and advice on attendees’ insolvency-related questions.

At the annual general meeting of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) on March 24, Pimvimol (June) Vipamaneerut, a partner in the firm’s corporate and commercial group in Bangkok, was elected as IPBA’s jurisdictional committee member for Thailand. In the role, Pimvimol will be responsible for membership issues in Thailand, and will be the key point of contact for matters concerning activities in the jurisdiction. She will serve as Thailand’s jurisdictional committee member for three years (2022–2025). The IPBA is a prestigious international association of business and commercial attorneys active or with a strong interest in the Pacific region. The IPBA has a membership of more than 1,500 legal professionals from over 65 countries and jurisdictions. On March 2, the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Thailand) elected new executives at its annual general meeting. In the ballot, Chaiwat Keratisuthisathorn, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ coporate and commercial group, was reelected to the board of directors and chosen to become one of the organization’s vice presidents. Having recently completed his first two-year term on the AustCham Thailand board, Chaiwat’s reelection on March 2 marks the beginning of his second consecutive term. The vice president position to which he was named—one of four in Austcham—carries a one-year term. In his role as director and vice president, Chaiwat continue to represent AustCham Thailand and Tilleke & Gibbins in high-level meetings, organize and participate in AustCham Thailand activities and events, and further support the interests of the Australian business community in Thailand.
