On October 28, Hien Thi Thu Vu, head of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regulatory affairs team in Vietnam, delivered a presentation titled “How to Export Cosmetics to Vietnam,” in collaboration with the life sciences consultancy ChemLinked to help foreign companies navigate key areas in the local legal framework. During the session, Hien provide an overview of cosmetics regulations in Vietnam, identified key elements of the regulatory framework, discussed compliance requirements and labeling essentials, and shared practical advice for cosmetic companies that wish to export their products to Vietnam. On September 16, Tilleke & Gibbins, in collaboration with online market intelligence platform ChemLinked, presented the opening session of the Southeast Asia cosmetic regulations webinar series, titled “How to Export Cosmetics to Indonesia.” In the session, Irene Djalim, manager of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regulatory affairs practice in Jakarta, provided an overview of the regulatory landscape for cosmetics registration in Indonesia, covered procedures and requirements for cosmetics registration, addressed advertisement controls, and discussed practical considerations for cosmetic operators looking to export products to Indonesia. On August 11, Atthachai Homhuan, director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regulatory affairs department, delivered a webinar entitled “How to Export Cosmetics to Thailand.” Cohosted by Tilleke & Gibbins and ChemLinked, the webinar was designed to equip international cosmetics producers and exporters with a fundamental understanding of the cosmetics regulatory framework in Thailand and related compliance requirements. During the session, Atthachai provided an in-depth overview of laws relating to cosmetics businesses in Thailand and shared examples of his hands-on experience assisting cosmetics industry clients with key regulatory compliance matters in the jurisdiction. Among other things, this included: An overview of the importation process for cosmetics products in Thailand; A discussion on product name and advertisement controls in the country; and Practical advice on how cosmetics companies can comply with local regulations. On July 19, 2021, key members of Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property (IP) and regulatory affairs (RA) teams in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam grouped up to deliver a webinar entitled “Healthcare Product Branding – Trademark and Regulatory Concerns in Southeast Asia.” Presented by Atthachai Homhuan, director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ RA group, based in the firm’s Thailand office; Hien Thi Thu Vu, head of the firm’s RA group in Vietnam; Irene Djalim, manager of RA in the firm’s Indonesia practice; and Linh Thi Mai Nguyen, partner and head of trademarks in the firm’s Vietnam practice, the session was designed to provide practical tips and know-how that can used by healthcare companies when protecting their valuable products and IP in the region. During the session, the speakers led attendees through discussions on: The importance of trademark prosecution for healthcare products, as well as key trademark registration considerations in Southeast Asia; Critical Food and Drug Administration regulatory issues and limitations for product labeling, packaging, and registration; and Differing rules and regulations between the local Department of Intellectual Property and other government bodies regulating healthcare products in each country.
