Update on Developments in Myanmar Business Laws

Thai Business Association in Myanmar

Yuwadee Thean-ngarm, the director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ Myanmar office, has been invited to present on “Myanmar Law Updates 2016-2017” in the Myanmar Update #3 Seminar.

Also speaking at the event will be the Thai Ambassador to Myanmar, H.E. Jukr Boon-Long; the Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration, U Aung Naing Oo; and other Myanmar investment experts. Joining the seminar will be over 100 business leaders from a range of sectors, including banking and finance, energy, food and beverage, consumer goods, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, and power.

Yuwadee will be providing her insights into new business laws and regulations in Myanmar, such as trade requirements for joint venture companies, regulations on the importation of used machines, notification obligations for foreign investors, as well as regulations on operating a car sales center, a car showroom, and a heavy machinery showroom.

The event will be organized by the Thai Business Association in Myanmar (TBAM) at the Novotel Yangon Max on May 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information on this event, please visit the TBAM website.

The nominees for Key Media’s New Zealand Law Awards 2016 have been announced, and Tilleke & Gibbins has been shortlisted for the “M&A Deal of the Year” award based on the firm’s participation in a deal in which Pacific Equity Partners acquired Academic Colleges Group. Tilleke & Gibbins’ work on the transaction was led by Vinh Quoc Nguyen, a senior attorney-at-law in the firm’s Ho Chi Minh City office.
