Training Course: ASEAN Business and Investment Law

Three Tilleke & Gibbins partners have been invited to lecture at the “ASEAN Business and Investment Law Training Course,” hosted by the Law and Development Research Center, Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University. The course is designed for legal practitioners and academics who hold an interest in business and investment laws in Southeast Asia.

Our lawyers will present on the following topics:

  • Nandana Indananda: Introduction to the Thai court system and intellectual property rights
  • Cynthia M. Pornavalai: Land ownership and credit facilities
  • Kobkit Thienpreecha: Business organizations, regulatory hurdles in starting a business, foreign equity ownership, and tax structures and repatriation of profits

The lectures will take place over two days. Nandana’s lecture introducing the Thai court system will take place on March 25 beginning at 5 p.m. The lectures by Cynthia and Kobkit will be held on March 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you would like to learn more about this course, please access a PDF document containing the course outline from the Chulalongkorn University website.

Joining the firm’s capital markets team alongside Patcharaporn will be Veerakorn Samranweth (senior associate) and Narita Sakunchotikarote (associate). Saravut Krailadsiri joins as a partner in the firm’s tax and corporate restructuring practice. His primary focus for the past two decades has been on tax, corporate restructuring, and cross-border M&A. Saravut provides comprehensive legal and tax counsel, including risk management advice for group restructuring and entire business transfers (EBT). He also offers tax management and planning advice for setting up proper investment entities and development projects in ASEAN countries. He has particular expertise in the energy industry, having represented some of the largest investments in petroleum exploration and production in Thailand. Saravut is recognized as a Notable Practitioner in Tax and in Restructuring and Insolvency by Asialaw and also as Notable Practitioner by IFLR1000. On July 1, 2024, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) announced the reappointment of Noppramart Thammateeradaycho as the Thailand member of its Court of Arbitration. Noppramart will serve another three-year term, from 2024 to 2027. The ICC Court of Arbitration is one of the world’s leading arbitral institutions, managing disputes involving major global companies. Membership in the court is a prestigious honor, with members selected from top law firms in their respective jurisdictions. Noppramart has actively participated in various sessions of the court, including a recent meeting in Singapore, where she engaged with representatives from prominent law firms and multinational companies. The Legal Industry Reviews (LIR) recently released their January 2024 edition of LIR Japan, featuring an interview with Noppramart Thammateeradaycho, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution practice, on arbitration in the region. In the interview, Noppramart discusses recent trends in arbitration in Asia, future possibilities for the field, the impact of artificial intelligence and other new technologies on the practice of arbitration, and the role of women in arbitration in Asia.
