On Thursday, October 21, 2021, two attorneys from the intellectual property department in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Bangkok office will present a Thai-language webinar on the importance of trademarks for garment manufacturers. Ploynapa Julagasigorn, senior associate, and Waralee Sripawadkul, associate, will team up to address trademark registration in Thailand and abroad. In the first part of the webinar, Ploynapa will cover trademark registration in Thailand, focusing especially on the importance of trademark registration, legal rights, distinctive qualities of successful trademarks, procedures, registration duration, and enforcement.  She will also outline procedures in civil trials, criminal trials, and alternative dispute resolution. Waralee will then present on trademark registration in other countries. She will explain the importance of a trademark validation outside of Thailand, discuss application requirements, advise on how to properly prepare an application, and share practical advice on issues that brand owners should be aware of. This webinar, which is organized in conjunction with the Thai Garment Manufacturers Association (TGMA), will provide brand owners with a clear understanding of how to acquire trademark protection in order to fully protect their intellectual property in Thailand and internationally. On October 5, Dutsadee Dutsadeepanich, an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution department, appeared as a guest speaker in the ADR Webinar Series 2021 organized by the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) to discuss the growth of arbitration in Asia. Titled “The Rise of Arbitration in Asia,” the session featured Dutsadee and other panelists discussing the following topics: International investment protection; Potential international investment disputes concerning Southeast Asia’s projects related to China’s Belt and Road Initiative; and Advantages of alternative dispute resolution as an effective approach for fast and fair legal treatment. In her remarks, Dutsadee provided a clear overview of significant developments in arbitration in Asia, and how key players in arbitration can adapt to the changing circumstances.

On October 5, 2021, Dutsadee Dutsadeepanich, an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution department in Bangkok, spoke in a webinar titled “The Rise of Arbitration in Asia.” Cohosted by the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC) and the Arbitration Association Brunei Darussalam (AABD), the online panel will share information and perspectives on arbitration in Asia—especially in relation the recent global growth of arbitration cases, which has been seen both in traditional arbitration centers such as Singapore and Hong Kong, and in other Asian jurisdictions offering arbitration expertise. The panel brought together six Asian arbitration specialists, including Dutsadee, who is currently the secretary of the Thailand branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is Thailand’s only representative on the Young Arbitrators Forum of the International Chamber of Commerce. Together the speakers led a comprehensive and wide-ranging discussion on developments and trends related to arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in Asia, with particular consideration of commercial arbitration, investor-state arbitration, and international commercial court proceedings. THAC and AABD are national-level arbitration organizations and are members of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group.

On September 29, Dutsadee Dutsadeepanich spoke in two panels as part of the 8th Young Arbitrators (YAF) Global event of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Dutsadee appeared in her role as one of 89 regional YAF representatives around the world. Dutsadee, who was first named to the YAF in August 2021, is the only representative from Thailand in the YAF’s South Asia Regional Chapter. For the recent YAF Global event, the first panel Dutsadee contributed to was titled “Know Your YAF – South Asia Edition!” while the second was titled “Tips for the Young by the Young!” In both sessions, she shared her extensive experience, laid out best practices, and addressed current topics of interest in arbitration. The YAF is responsible for promotion of ICC’s dispute resolution services and development of the organization’s extensive network of members. The forum, which is open to representatives up to age 40, helps young professionals build up their skills and knowledge of alternative dispute resolution such as the ICC’s arbitral procedures and disputes services. The representatives also oversee events that offer young arbitration practitioners in the region the chance to foster connections with one another and to learn from experienced practitioners.
