Tilleke & Gibbins Welcomes New Capital Markets Team Led by Yaowarote Klinboon

Tilleke & Gibbins is pleased to announce the addition of Thai capital markets veteran Yaowarote Klinboon to the firm’s Bangkok office. Yaowarote joins the firm as a partner and head of capital markets, alongside four associates who also join the firm’s capital markets team.

With over 20 years of experience in domestic and international capital markets, Yaowarote is one of Thailand’s most prominent capital markets lawyers. She is experienced with securities offerings under Rule 144A/Regulation S of the US Securities Act, the Rules and Regulations of the SGX-ST, and with the requirements of the Stock Exchange of Thailand. She is also adept at advising public listed companies on general corporate matters, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions, and actively advises both issuers and underwriters on international and domestic offerings of equity and debt instruments. She is internationally recognized for her securities work with top-tier financial advisory houses and financial institutions, and is ranked by leading global directories including Chambers and Legal 500.

Yaowarote joins Tilleke & Gibbins from the Bangkok office of a leading American law firm, and has also worked with a boutique securities law firm, a leading Thai law firm, and as a legal officer in both the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

She is accompanied by senior associates Karinevidch Olivero, Phatamol Phisitbuntoon, and Sittiwate Jewsittiprapai, and by associate Wisara Harnchonboth.

Tiziana Sucharitkul, managing partner and director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group, provided in-depth insights on diversity and inclusion and law firms for a recent article in Asia Business Law Journal (ABLJ) on diversity and inclusion in law firms across Asia. In the article, which was published on March 30, 2022, Tiziana offers insights gained in her years in senior leadership at Tilleke & Gibbins and as a longtime advocate for law firm diversity and inclusion initiatives. The article begins by contrasting the demand for greater diversity among Western law firms—especially by corporate counsel—with attitudes in Asia, where questions of expertise and service often take precedence when it comes to legal work. The writer then quickly shifts to investigating the reasons for this, as well as exploring the current state of diversity in the Asian legal industry today. This section of the article leads with Tiziana’s explanation that leadership of Asian law firms are in a very different context than the social tensions that catalyzed many diversity initiatives in the West. However, this does not necessarily mean that diverse representation has lagged in this part of the world. Rather, as Tiziana points out, “Southeast Asian countries have some of the highest proportions of women in senior business leadership in the world.” She also notes that markers such as gender diversity and respect for minority rights can vary widely across Asia. At the annual general meeting of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) on March 24, Pimvimol (June) Vipamaneerut, a partner in the firm’s corporate and commercial group in Bangkok, was elected as IPBA’s jurisdictional committee member for Thailand. In the role, Pimvimol will be responsible for membership issues in Thailand, and will be the key point of contact for matters concerning activities in the jurisdiction. She will serve as Thailand’s jurisdictional committee member for three years (2022–2025). The IPBA is a prestigious international association of business and commercial attorneys active or with a strong interest in the Pacific region. The IPBA has a membership of more than 1,500 legal professionals from over 65 countries and jurisdictions. Tiziana Sucharitkul, co-managing partner of Tilleke & Gibbins and director of the firm’s dispute resolution department, spoke in two International Bar Association (IBA) webinars on law firm management and strategic direction. Tiziana appeared in her capacity as a member of the IBA Law Firm Management Committee, first in an IBA Global Showcase session on October 28, 2021, and then again at an IBA Officers’ Briefing on November 9. The first event brought together two panels of law firm managing partners from around the world to discuss the matters of greatest concern to the legal industry in a session titled “What is the Future of our Law Firms?” Together, the panelists discussed issued such as the return to physical offices, how best to serve clients, how to encourage and support collaboration among lawyers, and what pricing strategies will look like in the future. This session formed part of the week-long IBA Global Showcase—a global conference sharing knowledge and celebrating successes in law firm policy and practice. In the second session, open only to officers of the IBA, Tiziana was one of three guests interviewed about law firm transitions and strategy. Alongside managing partners from leading firms in India and the USA, Tiziana discussed how established family-run firms can evolve into regional powerhouses, taking examples from her own experience with Tilleke & Gibbins’ regionalization and growth over the past two decades.
