Tilleke & Gibbins Strengthens Insurance Practice with Hiring of Athistha Chitranukroh

Southeast Asian law firm Tilleke & Gibbins has bolstered its insurance and transactional practices with the hiring of Athistha (Nop) Chitranukroh, Of Counsel in the firm’s Bangkok office.

Athistha joins Tilleke & Gibbins from American International Group (AIG), where she oversaw all operations within the legal department in Thailand in her role as Senior Vice President – General Counsel. Prior to joining AIG Thailand, Athistha was a counsel member of the AIG Asia Pacific – Regional Legal Team based in Singapore. Within the AIG group, Athistha was responsible for a wide range of Southeast Asia and Thailand legal and regulatory issues, and she led significant restructuring, business expansion, and shared service projects. Prior to her in-house role, she previously worked in private practice for a number of years at DLA Piper – Bangkok office.

As part of Tilleke & Gibbins’ insurance group in Thailand, Athistha provides advice on corporate, commercial and regulatory issues to clients operating within the insurance sector. She advises local and international clients on licensing and regulatory compliance, market entry and regional operations, policy wording and drafting, underwriting risk assessment, distribution and commercial agreements, and other related matters.

Beyond her insurance-focused work, Athistha serves as a member of Tilleke & Gibbins’ regional corporate and commercial team. She acts on behalf of large multinational corporations in mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and other strategic transactions.

Pimvimol Vipamaneerut Elected as IPBA Jurisdictional Committee Member for Thailand

Tilleke & Gibbins Holds Webinar on PDPA Guidelines for Insurance Companies in Thailand

On February 8, Nopparat Lalitkomon, senior associate, and Thammapas Chanpanich, associate, both in the firm’s corporate and commercial group in Bangkok, delivered a joint Thai-language webinar entitled “Personal Data Protection Guidelines for Insurance Industry.” During the session, the speakers focused on the relevance of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)—which is expected to come into force on June 1, 2022—to the insurance industry. Specifically, they discussed the following topics: Key principles of personal data collection; Scope of establishing the principle of legality for insurance companies; Notification of data collection and data processing activities in accordance with the law; Procedures of execution between insurance companies and their counterparties; and Managing personal data collected prior to the effective date of the PDPA. Tiziana Sucharitkul Delivers Law Firm Management Webinars for the IBA

Tiziana Sucharitkul, co-managing partner of Tilleke & Gibbins and director of the firm’s dispute resolution department, spoke in two International Bar Association (IBA) webinars on law firm management and strategic direction. Tiziana appeared in her capacity as a member of the IBA Law Firm Management Committee, first in an IBA Global Showcase session on October 28, 2021, and then again at an IBA Officers’ Briefing on November 9. The first event brought together two panels of law firm managing partners from around the world to discuss the matters of greatest concern to the legal industry in a session titled “What is the Future of our Law Firms?” Together, the panelists discussed issued such as the return to physical offices, how best to serve clients, how to encourage and support collaboration among lawyers, and what pricing strategies will look like in the future. This session formed part of the week-long IBA Global Showcase—a global conference sharing knowledge and celebrating successes in law firm policy and practice. In the second session, open only to officers of the IBA, Tiziana was one of three guests interviewed about law firm transitions and strategy. Alongside managing partners from leading firms in India and the USA, Tiziana discussed how established family-run firms can evolve into regional powerhouses, taking examples from her own experience with Tilleke & Gibbins’ regionalization and growth over the past two decades.
