Tilleke & Gibbins to Sponsor MIPPA Copyright Event

On August 30, 2019, Tilleke & Gibbins will co-sponsor an event on copyright organized by the Myanmar Intellectual Property Proprietors Association (MIPPA). Titled “Thabin and Movie Talk Show,” the event will feature a talk by Nwe Oo, an attorney-at-law in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Yangon office, on issues related to Myanmar’s Copyright Law, which was enacted earlier this year as part of a suite of intellectual property legislation that has overhauled IP protection in the country. His presentation will especially focus on how the new law relates to the thabin and film communities in Myanmar, as this event aims to help thabin and film artists, directors, and producers—as well as inventors and creative artists in other fields—understand their IP rights and the steps they can take to secure them.

As an active member of MIPPA, Tilleke & Gibbins is pleased to support their efforts to educate the public about IP issues in Myanmar. With the Myanmar government affirming the importance of a strong, modern IP protection regime to the development of the country, organizations like MIPPA are crucial in encouraging IP owners to embrace the rights guaranteed by the new legislation.

The Thabin and Movie Talk Show will be held at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry building in Yangon from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To register or learn more about the event, interested parties should contact MIPPA by email ([email protected], [email protected]) or telephone (09-5143419, 09-798433183).
