Tilleke & Gibbins Partner Elected as New Chair of Multilaw

Asian Legal Business

Piyanuj (Lui) Ratprasatporn, partner in Southeast Asian regional law firm Tilleke & Gibbins, has been elected as the new chair of London-headquartered Multilaw, one of the world’s leading legal networks with more than 9,000 lawyers from 90 member firms in over 100 countries.

Currently a member of the Multilaw Board and its Management Committee, Lui is also a member of the Appraisals Committee, which works to ensure that every member firm continues to meet the high standards of the network. She previously served as Chair of the Asia Pacific Region and a member of the Recruitment Committee. Lui will assume her two-year role as chair from Hope Krebs of US law firm Duane Morris LLP at the Multilaw Annual Global Meeting 2017 in Lisbon on Saturday 21 October.

At Tilleke & Gibbins, Lui advises domestic and international clients on investing and conducting business in Thailand and is director of the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Department in Bangkok. She is an expert on the full range of regulatory compliances and legal requirements for local and foreign investors who wish to expand their investments in the Thai market. She is a graduate of American University, Washington College of Law (LL.M.), and Thammasat University (LL.B., with honors).

Commenting on her new position, Lui said, “I am truly honored to have been elected as chair of Multilaw. When I attended my first Multilaw conference 15 years ago, I never could have imagined how much Multilaw would mean to me over the course of my career. Multilaw has changed a lot over that time—from a small, informal group into a global, high-quality organization. What hasn’t changed is the feeling of being part of Multilaw. Our network is driven by collaboration, openness, and friendliness. These shared values of the network bind us together, and they are a big part of what makes Multilaw special. I look forward to working closely with Multilaw member firms from across the globe to continue strengthening our network over the next two years.”

Commenting on the appointment, Multilaw Executive Director Adam Cooke said “Multilaw is very fortunate to have a lawyer of Lui’s stature and caliber leading it over the next two years. She is in a sense our first homegrown chair, having graduated from our inaugural Multilaw Academy in 2001. I very much look forward to working with her.”

Darani Vachanavuttivong, Co-Managing Partner of Tilleke & Gibbins, expressed her confidence that Lui’s contributions to Multilaw will be substantial. “Lui has led our Corporate and Commercial team to great success, as our practice has grown across Southeast Asia. Lui’s new leadership role at Multilaw will open new opportunities for our firm—and more importantly, our clients—to connect with top lawyers all around the world.”
