Tilleke & Gibbins Interpreter Wins National Award

Translator and Interpreter Association of Thailand

Uruphan Benjarurawong, manager of legal translation and interpretation at Tilleke & Gibbins, has won the prestigious Surintaracha Award as Thailand’s Best Interpreter for 2013. This award was granted by the Translator and Interpreter Association of Thailand (TIAT) at its seventh annual awards ceremony in Bangkok on April 28, 2013.

This marks the first time that the TIAT has granted an award to a court interpreter. The TIAT stated that it expects courtroom interpretation to become increasingly important in Thailand, in light of the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community integration in 2015.

Uruphan, who has been with Tilleke & Gibbins for more than 10 years, regularly serves the firm’s clients as an interpreter for litigation and mediation proceedings.
