Tilleke & Gibbins to Host TICC Seminar on Investing in Myanmar

Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce

The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce (TICC), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and Tilleke & Gibbins, is organizing a seminar on “Myanmar: Strategic Investment Opportunities for SMEs.” The seminar will focus on socio-economic reform in Myanmar, and in particular, the new foreign investment and special economic zone laws.

The event will feature three distinguished speakers, including Michele Boario, a senior MSMEs expert at UNIDO, who will discuss strategies and opportunities for foreign companies; Masato Abe, an economics affairs officer at UNESCAP, who will talk on the policy framework for SMEs in Myanmar; and Michael Ramirez, a consultant in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group, who will provide his perspective on the following main topics:

  • Overview of Myanmar Legal System
  • Economic and Legal Liberalization
  • Overview of the Foreign Investment Law
  • Key Allowances and Restrictions for Foreign Investors
  • Sample Studies of Potential and Actual Investors
  • On the Legal Horizon

A recent order by the ruling military government of Thailand to ground international flights operated by 12 airlines was seen by some as a duplication of an order issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).
