Tilleke & Gibbins Attorney to Speak at Thai Institute of Directors Program

Kokbit Thienpreecha of the Tilleke & Gibbins corporate and commercial department has been invited to speak at a Dinner Talk for the Director Certification Program (in English), hosted by the Thai Institute of Directors, at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok Hotel on June 14, 2012.

Kokbit will speak about director legal liability, how directors can adapt their role readily for the upcoming AEC changes in 2015, and possible changes and amendments to the applicable law. He will also discuss impacts of legislation in such areas as anti-corruption, trade competition, anti-dumping and subsidized imports, consumer protection, and limitations on activities of foreign businesses.

The Director Certification Program is a course that is intended to broaden member directors’ knowledge and viewpoints. The IOD uses experiential learning through case studies and class discussions to help participants to learn about directorship, ranging from a director’s role in financial statements, to directing strategic processes.

John will discuss how to successfully repossess an aircraft in Thailand, from initial communications with the operator, to working through the legal elements of the repossession process, to exporting the aircraft out of the Kingdom. He will also delve into a number of practical examples and case studies.

David Lyman, chairman and chief values officer at Tilleke & Gibbins, was interviewed by Bangkok Biz News, known in Thai as Krungthep Thurakij, on business in Thailand after the passing of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej.Commenting on the drop in income from exports, David said that this is partially due to the slow recovery of the world economy. He then reiterated the King’s remarks on the importance of sustainable development and preserving the environment. The government should place emphasis on managing funds and developing infrastructure.
