On July 12, 2012, three Tilleke & Gibbins lawyers, Chinachart Vatanasuchart, Suebsiri Taweepon, and Somboon Earterasarun, will be speaking at a seminar on ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) issues relevant to Thailand. Chinachart Vatanasuchart, partner in the corporate and commercial team, will give an overview of general issues and concerns posed to member companies as a result of the establishment of the AEC in 2015. Suebsiri Taweepon, attorney-at-law, and Somboon Earterasarun, senior consultant, both from the Tilleke & Gibbins intellectual property team, will then delve into IP issues. Suebsiri will begin with a general overview of IP law, followed by a discussion of IP registration in ASEAN by Somboon.

With over 500 participants expected to attend, the seminar will cover issues ranging from the impact of the AEC on forestry-related industries and their preparedness in Thailand, to the impact on competition within product markets, and the need for an action plan that builds on businesses’ strengths and eventually welcomes the change.
