Michael Lee to Host Vietnam Panel at Singapore IFLR Forum

Michael K. Lee, Partner and Head of Corporate & Commercial in Vietnam, will be moderating a panel on investment in Vietnam at the International Financial Law Review’s Southeast Asia Forum 2014. Michael’s panel will include representatives from Dell, UTC Building & Industrial Systems, and Merck, Sharp & Dohme, and will cover the following topics:

  • How to invest in Vietnam: licenses, approvals and FDI restrictions explained
  • What to expect from the liberalization of Vietnam’s FDI regime
  • Avoiding FCPA and UK Bribery Act risk in the jurisdiction
  • Developments in Vietnam’s labor laws

IFLR’s Southeast Asia Forum will be attended by in-house counsel  from the top companies in Asia and Singapore-based banks. The full-day event will be held on April 24 at the Hilton Singapore, and will also feature panels on M&A and private equity across Southeast Asia, accessing Asia’s capital markets, and investing in Myanmar.

At the annual general meeting of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) on March 24, Pimvimol (June) Vipamaneerut, a partner in the firm’s corporate and commercial group in Bangkok, was elected as IPBA’s jurisdictional committee member for Thailand. In the role, Pimvimol will be responsible for membership issues in Thailand, and will be the key point of contact for matters concerning activities in the jurisdiction. She will serve as Thailand’s jurisdictional committee member for three years (2022–2025). On March 2, the Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Thailand) elected new executives at its annual general meeting. In the ballot, Chaiwat Keratisuthisathorn, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ coporate and commercial group, was reelected to the board of directors and chosen to become one of the organization’s vice presidents. Having recently completed his first two-year term on the AustCham Thailand board, Chaiwat’s reelection on March 2 marks the beginning of his second consecutive term. The vice president position to which he was named—one of four in Austcham—carries a one-year term. In his role as director and vice president, Chaiwat continue to represent AustCham Thailand and Tilleke & Gibbins in high-level meetings, organize and participate in AustCham Thailand activities and events, and further support the interests of the Australian business community in Thailand. Tilleke & Gibbins partners in the firm’s Bangkok and Hanoi offices were quoted in Lex Mundi’s newly released Global M&A Trends Report 2022. The report covers notable trends, issues, and forecasts for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) around the world. Kobkit Thienpreecha, partner and director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial department, was sought out for his comments on the M&A picture in Thailand, while Thomas Treutler, partner and managing director of the firm’s Vietnam offices, gave his insights into the M&A landscape in Vietnam. The Global M&A Trends Report 2022 was produced by the Lex Mundi Cross-Border Transactions Group, and it analyzes M&A deal activity by sector and market. Overall, the report, which compiles market intelligence from practitioners in 66 jurisdictions, finds that 2021 was a record year for M&A deal activity and that most jurisdictions expect to see a similarly active environment in 2022. Dr. Vinh Quoc Nguyen, a partner with the corporate and commercial team in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Ho Chi Minh City office, has been elected to serve a one-year term as chair of the Vietnam Business Lawyers Club (VBLC), a leading professional organization affiliated with the Vietnam Bar Federation. VBLC was established in 2015 with the mission of developing a collaborative group of Vietnamese lawyers engaged in cross-border commercial practice. In addition to providing a forum for practitioners to share experience and offer mutual support, VBLC regularly conducts classes and seminars, and advises lawmakers on policy issues. A well-known figure in Vietnam legal circles, Dr. Vinh is also a lecturer at the Judicial Academy and an arbitrator with the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC). In November 2021, he was honored by Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice for his contributions to the development of the country’s legal practice.
