Lex Mundi Event Reveals Insights into Insurance Industry Trends and Cross-Border Challenges

Lex Mundi

Insurance sector legal counsel and policy holders shared perspectives on major industry trends and discussed cross-border challenges with Lex Mundi member firm lawyers from Europe, Asia, Latin America, and North America at the Lex Mundi Insurance and Reinsurance Cross-Border Legal Summit, held September 9-10 in Munich.

Among the participants in the Summit was Aaron Le Marquer, a consultant in the Tilleke & Gibbins dispute resolution department, who convened with panelists to discuss international developments in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Sharing his extensive knowledge of these matters, Aaron, who once served as Assistant General Counsel to the regional headquarters of a major global insurer, weighed in on key market trends and the regulatory frameworks in Thailand and other Asian jurisdictions. The panel, consisting of other Lex Mundi member firm lawyers, particularly focused its attention on new market entry norms (including operating restrictions and requirements in emerging markets), consumer protection, and general observations from their experiences representing clients.

The Summit provided corporate counsel and claims professionals from multinational insurers, including Allianz, Munich Re, Swiss Re, RGA, and AIG, the opportunity to address hot topics such as evolving regulatory requirements, entry into emerging markets, and structuring of multinational policies.

More than 30 Lex Mundi member firm lawyers attended the Summit organized by the Lex Mundi Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group, including representatives of Nishimura & Asahi (Lex Mundi member firm for Japan);  Noerr LLP (Lex Mundi member firm for Germany);  Demarest Advogados (Lex Mundi member firm for Brazil); Jenner & Block LLP (Lex Mundi member firm for Illinois); and Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. (Lex Mundi member firm for India).

“Through the Lex Mundi Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group, we are able to help clients stay abreast of important developments in other jurisdictions and provide coordinated advice when necessary,” noted Jenner & Block’s John Mathias, who serves as the group’s Regional Vice Chair for North America.

“Insurance is an increasingly global industry and the Lex Mundi Cross-Border Legal Summit allowed us to better understand the legal challenges that our cedents may be encountering in different jurisdictions,” stated a legal counsel at a large multinational reinsurer.
