Lawyers Named Among Top 250 Life Sciences Patent Litigators Worldwide

Three members of the Tilleke & Gibbins IP team have been named to the IAM Life Sciences 250, a listing of the top 250 life sciences patent litigators worldwide. Published by the editors of Intellectual Asset Management magazine, these rankings were based on comprehensive research in over
20 key jurisdictions.

The IP team members who received recognition for their expertise were Srila Thongklang, Partner and Chief IP Litigator; Alan Adcock, Partner and Deputy Director; and James Evans, Consultant. Srila won praise for his “solid history of IP litigation,” while Alan was described as a “key point of contact for foreign clients.” A recent addition to the Tilleke & Gibbins IP team, James is a seven-year UK-qualified lawyer with substantial experience in all types of IP litigation and in patent and trademark portfolio management.

On January 21, 2022, Tilleke & Gibbins hosted a Chinese-language webinar aimed at helping clients in mainland China understand the fundamentals of Thailand’s trademark registration process. Noppramart Thammateeradaycho, a counsel in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution practice, has been appointed to the new panel of arbitrators announced recently by the Shanghai Arbitration Commission (SHAC). Noppramart, who was one of two attorneys from Thailand named to the new SHAC arbitration panel, will provide particular support in relation to arbitration of disputes involving the maritime, transportation, insurance, and construction sectors. She is joined on the panel by arbitrators from a wide range of professional backgrounds, with expertise diverse fields including economics, judicial procedure, business, intellectual property, finance, and many more. SHAC, which has grown considerably since its establishment in 1995, is one of the major international arbitration institutions in China. It provides alternative dispute resolution services to companies, organizations, and individuals involved in contentious matters that both parties have agreed to resolve through arbitration rather than litigation.

Partner Loc Xuan Le shared his thoughts on Vietnam’s accession to the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT), a special agreement under the Berne Convention, with a reporter from Asia IP magazine in a recent article: “In my opinion, Vietnam’s Law on Intellectual Property has already covered and satisfied WCT’s requirements, so the accession to WCT is just us acting on our commitment when we joined the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership. By joining WCT, Vietnam ensures that we shall provide IP rights protection at international standards, which I believe is crucial in developing Vietnam as an attractive business destination for foreign investors.” Loc further added, “On the other hand, Vietnam has a strong and growing community of artists who generate content on the Internet daily, so the official accession of Vietnam to WCT shall provide solid legal grounds to protect Vietnamese creators in the digital era. On December 15–16, Kasamesunt Teerasitsathaporn and Pongpalin Chantrapirom of the firm’s dispute resolution group in Bangkok offered a two-part Thai-language webinar series titled “Violations of the Personal Data Protection Act and Case Studies in Europe” to equip Thai businesses with proper knowledge and understanding before Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act comes into full effect in June 2022. In the webinar series, Kasamesunt and Pongpalin provided a comprehensive overview of obligations of the data controller and data processor; discussed civil liability, criminal offenses, and administrative penalties; addressed enforcement structures; covered complaint proceedings; and shared case studies from Europe to highlight mistakes that Thai companies should learn from.
