Laos Extends Exemption from Visa Overstay Fines

On April 17, 2020, the Immigration Department of Laos’ Ministry of Public Security issued Notification No. 752, which states that, further to the extension of the lockdown measures by the Prime Minister (see here for more information), the Immigration Department will also extend the terms of Notification No. 740, issued on April 7, 2020 (see here for more information), relating to exemption from fines for visa overstay during the lockdown period in Laos.

Services related to extension of visas and stay permits have been further postponed, and exemptions from fines remain in effect, until May 3 (inclusive). Although no overstay fine will be payable, those who overstay their visa in Laos during the lockdown measures will still be subject to the accrual of normal extension fees, as indicated in the previous regulation No. 740.
