John Frangos to Speak at JFCCT/NACC Anti-Corruption Seminar

National Anti-Corruption Commission and Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand

On September 13, 2017, John Frangos, a consultant in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution department, will join a seminar to on the prevention and suppression of corruption, held by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT).

During the seminar, John will join the president of the NACC, the chairman of the JFCCT, the vice-chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, and an expert moderator to discuss a range of issues relevant to anti-corruption in Thailand, focusing on phase three of Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy (2017-2021) and amendments to the Organic Act on Counter Corruption.

The seminar will take place at the Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel in Bangkok from 13:00 to 17:00, and will be conducted in English. Attendance is by invitation only, with guests including ambassadorial and governmental staff, among others.

Thailand’s Organic Act on Counter-Corruption was recently amended to impose strict liability on companies for corrupt acts committed by a company’s “associated persons,” unless there are “adequate procedures” in place to prevent such corruption. In addition, the amendments criminalize corruption that involves “foreign officials” and impose the death penalty on foreign officials that engage in corrupt activities.
