Dr. Jakkrit Kuanpoth to Speak on Patent Rights at APAA Event in Phnom Penh

On August 3, 2017, Dr. Jakkrit Kuanpoth, of counsel in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Bangkok office, will join an Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) Patent Surgery course as a guest speaker in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The event will be focused on the importance of a strong IP protection system, and is part of the APAA’s international series of Patent Surgeries being held periodically across Asia.

He will speak on the topic “Patent Rights and their Role in Socio-Economic Development,” and later take part in a broad panel discussion alongside guests from the APAA, the World Intellectual Property Organization, and other distinguished IP practitioners from across Asia.

The Patent Surgery course will take place at the Himawari Hotel & Conference Centre from July 30 to August 3. Attendees should register in advance on the APAA Patent Surgery website, where full details of the five-day event are available.

In addition, Dr. Jakkrit will give a guest lecture on August 2, entitled “Protection of Unregistered Marks, Business Reputation and Goodwill,” as part of the Master of International Law Program at the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE). Nandana Indananda, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property practice, was interviewed by the Thai Post for their recent article about the ASEAN Law Association (ALA) Governing Council Meeting, which took place on November 21–22 in Phuket. Nandana, who is also vice president of the Lawyer’s Council of Thailand’s (LCT) subcommittee on foreign affairs, was joined at the event by Waralee Sripawadkul, attorney-at-law in the firm’s intellectual property group. Together they represented Tilleke & Gibbins at the two-day meeting.
