Bangkok Post: The Fight Between Real and Fake

Counterfeit products are becoming increasingly pervasive in our daily lives, according to a report in today’s edition of the Bangkok Post. This was one of many insights about intellectual property infringement gained through a visit to the Pharmacide Arts & Counterfeit Goods exhibition, currently running at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC). Sponsored by the Cultural and Cooperation Section of the French Embassy, the Department of Intellectual Property, and Tilleke & Gibbins, the exhibition aims “to promote and enhance awareness and exposure about fake goods, including hazardous bogus medicines.” Many of the products on display at the event were borrowed from the Tilleke & Gibbins Museum of Counterfeit Goods.

As part of the exhibition, a discussion session will be held tonight at the BACC, featuring James Evans of Tilleke & Gibbins as one of the speakers.

Suebsiri Taweepon, an attorney-at-law in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group, was interviewed by Bun-tung Thai Bev for his thoughts on the subject.The program interviewed Suebsiri about the effects of buying counterfeit products on both consumers and producers of genuine goods. Tilleke & Gibbins’ Museum of Counterfeit Goods was recently featured in a short documentary produced by the Bangkok Post  newspaper. The documentary, which delves into the harmful effects of fake goods, showcases the museum’s stock of counterfeit products and interviews Suebsiri Taweepon, an attorney-at-law in the Tilleke & Gibbins intellectual property group.Suebsiri was interviewed about the different types of intellectual property, the effect of counterfeit goods on companies, and the fake products housed in the museum.
