Athistha (Nop) Chitranukroh to Speak on Insurance & Reinsurance Regulations in CLMVT

Athistha (Nop) Chitranukroh, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ corporate and commercial department and head of the firm’s insurance practice, will be speaking at a training program on reinsurance for insurance practitioners titled “The Practical Aspects of Reinsurance” on September 19, 2018. Athistha’s session, titled “Insurance & Reinsurance Regulations in CLMVT,” will give a detailed explanation and practical understanding of the purpose and impact of (re)insurance regulations required to satisfy the regulators in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand; the ongoing regulatory developments and trends that will have the greatest impact on(re)insurance business; and various other issues relevant to the region.

The three-day training session, run jointly by Thaire Services and AIT Extension, will be held from September 19 to 21 at the Ambassador Hotel, Bangkok, and is aimed at giving attendees the chance to examine fundamental and practical elements of reinsurance. It will address the various types of reinsurance contracts, regulations, and regulatory requirements; examine common clauses found in treaties; give participants the chance to review cedants’ retention strategies; and cover various essential accounting and statistical methods that are commonly applied in the business. Aaron Le Marquer, a consultant and insurance specialist at Tilleke & Gibbins, has been interviewed by Asia Insurance Intelligence magazine for his views on the current state of the Thai insurance market.Commenting on the Thai insurance industry regulator, the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), Aaron said that a particular focus of the OIC in recent years has been to try to ensure better capital adequacy. “In 2013, that meant the introduction of risk-based capital requirements whereas previously there had been flat capital requirements,” he said.
