Asian Legal Business: Yuwadee Thean-ngarm Named One of Asia’s Top 40 Lawyers Under 40

Asian Legal Business

Yuwadee Thean-ngarm, director of Tilleke & Gibbins’ Myanmar practice, has been recognized by Asian Legal Business  (ALB) as one of Asia’s leading lawyers under the age of 40 in the magazine’s fifth annual “40 Under 40” publication—a list that features the brightest young practitioners around Asia. Notably, Yuwadee is the only lawyer in the list that represents Asia’s last frontier economy, the jurisdiction of Myanmar.

In the accompanying analysis, ALB  discusses Yuwadee’s effective leadership in the jurisdiction since the firm opened the office in 2013, stating, “Under her leadership, the firm’s Myanmar presence has grown from a small branch office into a full-service law firm with 11 fee-earners.” Additionally, the analysis recognizes her many contributions to foreign investment through her role as secretary-general of the Thai Business Association of Myanmar, and highlights her exceptional corporate and commercial work for a joint venture between a Thai telecommunications conglomerate and local Myanmar companies for the expansion of a fiber-optic network in Myanmar.

ALB, owned by Thomas Reuters, provides regular legal updates and rankings tables for firms and individual practitioners around Asia. Finalists for the annual “40 Under 40” list are selected through an in-depth research process that considers the individual lawyer’s performance and contributions, and accolades from peers, colleagues, and clients. Other Tilleke & Gibbins lawyers who have been named to this list in years past include Somboon Earterasarun in 2015 and Athistha (Nop) Chitranukroh in 2018.
