ASEAN IPA: An ASEAN Outlook on Intellectual Property – What to Expect in 2016

Alan Adcock, partner in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property and regulatory affairs group, will speak on “Regulatory Encroachments on IP in Thailand” at “An ASEAN Outlook on Intellectual Property,” a conference hosted by the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association. The event aims to cover important updates to IP laws and regulations in ASEAN member states, and in particular, the Madrid Protocol. Alan’s presentation will discuss the recent Thai health authority efforts to restrict advertising and labeling on tobacco, alcohol, and pediatric nutritional replacement products which have considerable implications on registered and unregistered IP rights.

In addition, David Lawrence, consultant in Tilleke & Gibbins’ dispute resolution group, will moderate a panel discussion on “Brand Owners’ Perspectives” during the event. The panel will include representatives from the alcoholic beverage, food, hotel, and tobacco industries.

The conference will take place at the Sofitel Sukhumvit Bangkok hotel on March 31 from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alan’s presentation will be held from 11.20 a.m. to 11.50 a.m. David’s panel discussion will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to learn more about this event, please visit the ASEAN IPA website.

In a research project to celebrate Pride Month 2020, World Trademark Review  (WTR) recently set out to explore the landscape of diversity and inclusion initiatives in law firms across Asia, culminating in an article in the magazine’s July edition. In discussing the activity of firms that are proactively pushing forward diversity and inclusion in Asia, WTR  specifically highlighted Tilleke & Gibbins’ unique approach across the firm’s offices in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
