In recent years, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending technology has taken root in Asia, particularly in China, Singapore, and Indonesia, and the P2P market is continuing to expand significantly. The business model allows lenders and borrowers to link up via an online platform. This disrupts the traditional banking model that requires a financial institution to act as an intermediary. For individuals, this means that underbanked populations are able to secure loans where previously a lack of credit history or little access to financial service institutions posed considerable obstacles.

The current version of Thailand’s Trademark Act came into force on July 28, 2016. The most recent amendments to the trademark laws introduced multiple-class filings, registration of international trademarks, new methods to calculate official fees, and the acceptance of sound marks. What did not change were the formality requirements and the general examination practices of the Thai Trademark Office. Nevertheless, we have recently come across certain issues that require increased scrutiny from trademark owners.

This has been an especially hot topic in the pharmaceutical sector after changes brought on in 2017 by new legislation.

On December 19, 2018, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia (MOLHR) ratified Regulation No. 38 of 2018 on Patent Applications as an implementing regulation of Law No. 13 of 2016 Concerning Patents.   This regulation came into effect on December 28, 2018. It was presented to the public by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) on March 19, 2019, through a local seminar organized by the Indonesian Intellectual Property Attorneys Association (AKHKI) and the DGIP.
