Tilleke & Gibbins is pleased to announce its engagement as Thai counsel to Tools for Humanity, the technology company behind the innovative World App and World ID ecosystem. Our team conducted a comprehensive legal and regulatory assessment covering digital assets, biometric data, digital platforms, and digital identity services. We advised on the legal aspect of WLD token airdrops, and the regulatory implications of noncustodial wallets and third-party integrations within the World App. The work also included a detailed review of Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), ensuring compliance with data localization requirements, biometric consent protocols, and the appointment of data protection officers and local representatives. Developed and operated by Tools for Humanity, the World App serves as a gateway to the World Network, a decentralized identity and finance project. It enables users to access a private, decentralized digital identity through World ID and engage with cryptocurrencies. The ecosystem also includes the Orb, a privacy-preserving biometric device designed to verify World IDs and ensure user authenticity. “This engagement marks a significant step in advancing digital infrastructure and promoting financial inclusion in Thailand,” said Pornpan Wichawut, Counsel at Tilleke & Gibbins. The legal team also includes Athistha (Nop) Chitranukroh, Gvavalin Mahakunkitchareon, Napassorn Lertussavavivat, Thammapas Chanpanich, Rada Lamsam, and Wilin Somya.
