The latest edition of How to Hire and Fire, a guide to the rules and regulations governing employment relationships around the world, has been published by Multilaw. Nwe Oo, attorney-at-law, and Shalini Ghosh, consultant, in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Yangon office, coauthored the Myanmar chapter of the guide.
The chapter delves into the general principles of employment law, hiring employees, maintaining employment relationships, and firing employees. In particular, it covers subjects such as Myanmar’s new labor law, the minimum wage of MMK 3,000 per day for the greater Yangon metropolitan area, parental rights such as 15 days’ leave for infant care after delivery for male employees, employers suing under Section 54 of the Specific Relief Act to restrain employees from disclosing protected or privileged information, the Workmen’s Compensation Act under which employers are liable to pay compensation for injuries or death resulting from accidents during the course of employment, dismissal, termination, and resignation, among other topics.
