Tilleke & Gibbins World IP Day Events Draw Media Coverage

Phap Luat

The World IP Day events held this week in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by Tilleke & Gibbins and AmCham have been covered by the local media. Three television stations and several newspapers reported on the events, including Phap Luat, a daily newspaper focusing on legal issues published by Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice.

The seminars on IP infringement issues brought together government officials, including prominent IP enforcement expert Dr. Pham Hong Quat from the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and leaders from the business community. Approximately 50 guests attended in each city, including representatives from major brand owners like ExxonMobil, Kraft, Microsoft, and Unilever.

According to Phap Luat, seminar participants engaged in a productive discussion about how Vietnam should address its IP enforcement challenges to encourage foreign investment and local innovation. Common concerns included the lack of severity in punishments for repeat infringers and the need for stronger mechanisms to settle domain name disputes.

Each of the events also included a display of IP-infringing products from the Tilleke & Gibbins 模倣品展示博物館 in Bangkok.
