Team from Tilleke & Gibbins to Speak on Thailand’s Production Sharing Contracts

On August 20, 2020, attorneys from Tilleke & Gibbins will give a presentation on Thailand’s model production sharing contract (PSC) at the monthly technical meeting of the Thailand section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Joseph Tomkiewicz, partner and co-chair of the firm’s Energy Industry Team, will lead the session, which will present a legal overview of the model PSC and highlight several relevant provisions for SPE members. During the presentation, Joseph will be joined by partner and Energy Industry Team co-chair Supasit Boonsanong; counsel Tanadee Pantumkomon of the same department; Michael Ramirez, counsel in the firm’s dispute resolution group; and Dr. Ross Taylor of the firm’s regional corporate and commercial team.

This is a timely and relevant presentation as Thailand prepares for the next offshore oil and gas bid round, once again featuring the model PSC, while the industry will likely also address the current health and safety challenges presented in 2020. Because of current circumstances, the legal overview in the presentation will be complemented by a discussion of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry, as well as insights into the force majeure clause, its interpretation, and its possible applications.

SPE Thailand, of which Tilleke & Gibbins is also a sponsor, has over 600 members with expertise and experience in various aspects of the oil and gas industry. The organization provides a platform for the collection, dissemination, and exchange of technical knowledge on oil and gas operations.
