Somboon Earterasarun, a partner in Tilleke & Gibbins intellectual property (IP) group, was interviewed by the Asia Business Law Journal for his views on IP protection challenges in Indonesia. His comments were included in the magazine’s article titled, “Making Your Mark,” which provided insight into pervasive IP infringement and challenges in protecting brands in Indonesia.
“Bureaucracy and unclear provisions are the two main challenges facing IP rights protection in Indonesia,” said Somboon. Despite these problems, the article goes on to describe ongoing efforts to improve Indonesia’s IP regime to meet international standards, and cites how the local presence of many leading firms, including Tilleke & Gibbins, is an important contributing factor for IP protection in the country.
