Biography

Khin Yadanar Htay is an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ Yangon office. Her practice primarily focuses on intellectual property, data privacy, and corporate and commercial matters in Myanmar. As a versatile, cross-practice attorney, she handles intellectual property inquiries and advises on foreign currency exchange regulations, export and import matters, FDA procedures, data privacy, and cybersecurity protection.

In addition to her work for international and regional corporate clients across a wide range of industries, Khin Yadanar is an active contributor of legal advice to pro bono projects in Myanmar, including those relating to of human trafficking prevention and suppression, migrant labor and child protection, local anticounterfeiting procedures, and subrogated recoveries in Myanmar. With her strong interest in legal research and writing, Khin Yadanar also regularly produces articles and client alerts to explain and clarify legal developments in Myanmar.

Khin Yadanar received her LLB from the University of Mandalay and holds an LLM in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from the National University of Singapore. She has practical experience with intellectual property law in both Myanmar and Singapore, and is admitted to the Myanmar Bar.

  • Filed trademark applications for various clients in Myanmar, based both on the old system of declaration of ownership and cautionary notice publication, and on use of the mark during the “soft opening period” under the new Trademark Law.
  • Advised a leading global food and beverage company regarding monthly regulatory updates by the Food and Administration Authority of Myanmar.
  • Provided strategic advice to a vaccine provider on information and procedures relating to the importation of COVID-19 vaccines into Myanmar.
  • Advised various companies on laws and practices related to Myanmar’s data transfer impact assessment requirements.
  • Conducted due diligence and assisted with reports regarding global sanctions on Myanmar in response to the military takeover in 2021.
