Kannicha Wungmuthitakul is an associate in Tilleke & Gibbins’ intellectual property group in Bangkok. She advises brand owners on the full range of trademark matters, in addition to protecting their IP rights through the formulation of effective enforcement strategies.
Prior to joining Tilleke & Gibbins, Kannicha worked as a lawyer at a leading Thai firm, and interned in the intellectual property department of an international European law firm, where she gained extensive experience in IP enforcement and liaising with local authorities.
Kannicha graduated with a Bachelor of Law from Thammasat University in Thailand, and a Master of Law in International Commercial Law from the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom. She is a member of the Lawyers Council of Thailand.
- Successfully represented various renowned electronic appliances brands, a major marketplace platform, and a mobile game developer in litigation cases at the IP&IT Court against the Thai DIP in connection with trademark applications that were rejected for registration by the Registrar and the Board of Trademarks for non-distinctiveness.
- Advised a world-renowned luxury jewelry and specialty accessories retailer in enforcing its trademark rights against a Thai company that was selling infringing products through various shops on social media and online platforms, including the filing of notices and takedown complaints to protect our client’s exclusive rights to profit from their globally recognized trademarks.
- Assisted a multinational soft drink company in conducting a risk assessment for localization of their new global marketing campaign and advising on possible IP dispute issues against a long-time competitor.
- Represented a leading global automobile manufacturer in fighting against the sale of counterfeit chainsaws on one of the world’s largest online marketplaces. Among other things, this work included coordinating with the online platform to facilitate the removal of a huge amount of URLs offering counterfeits for sale which resulted in a dramatic decrease in the amount of illegal online activities affecting our client.
- Assisted one of Japan’s largest conglomerates in initiating and carrying out a successful criminal raid action against a Thai retail and wholesale shop in that was selling counterfeit agricultural automotive products bearing our client’s world-renowned trademark without authorization. Our assistance brought about a successful raid action against the targeted shop and prevented the distribution of counterfeit goods.
- Assisting a global aquaculture company in an IP litigation matter against a number of infringers.
- Liaised with the Thai Economic Police and Customs officers in conducting IP enforcement action against infringers.
- Supported legal team in advising on telecommunications project involving the Thai National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.
